Manateq Headquarter, Doha, Qatar

The unique UHPC-façade of this office complex in Doha, Qatar is designed and built with concrete based on Nanodur Compound. The 3-D shaped panels have visible surfaces from all sides and span up to nine metres in length. Client is the Manateq Economic Zones Company, located in Qatar, more information about the project see www.manateq.qa. Contractor and producer of the beautiful and impressive Ultra High Performance shading elements with a compressive strength of more than 150 MPa is the local prefab and GRFC-company DCS Doha Cladding Solutions.  Papers about the technical details can be downloaded in the Download Section.

Office Building 'Magnum' in Kaunas, Lithuania

This office building 'Magnum' in Lithuania has a vertical structured façade arranged both on the outside of the building and inside within the foyer. The pigmented and textured cladding elements are from www.hibeton.lt. Hibeton produces also wash basins, kitchen sinks, stairs, tables and counterdesks with the binder Nanodur white or grey. Hibeton adds inorganic pigments, where it is applicable. In the formulations there are fibers within the high strength self compacting concrete, so it is a UHPFRC or Ultra-High performance fiber reinforced concrete. More information and pictures about the building see the webpage of Magnum.

Doha Live, Qatar

DohAlive is a mixed-use development in the city of Doha. It is a 45m high Hotel Building, a retail building and a multi-storey car park. Reinforcing bars cannot be arranged in the white cladding facade, so UHPC was the right material. The storey high cladding elements were performed by Doha Cladding Solution, a local GRC and prefab plant. DCS uses a mix proportion with a compression strength fcm > 150 MPa with aggregates from India. Steel fibers are from China, PCE is sourced from a local supplier. Binder is Nanodur Compound 5941 of Dyckerhoff.

Sport Stadium, Kaunas, Lithuania

The grey, large sized façade elements, are made with Nanodur white. The colour was added using grey inorganic pigments. The elements with the rusty look are also made with Nanodur concrete. They are treated with a water solution with iron salt to get the desired result. A real innovative idea! This is high art of UHPFRC or Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete technology performed by Hibeton, our partner in Lithuania.

Library and Offices in Gummersbach, Germany

This grey, large sized façade elements, are made with self compacting Nanodur grey (SCC). The UHPC elements have no fibers, are unreinforced and span over 2.80m with a thickness of 40mm. Since 2011, three similar building blocks are erected on the site, two office buildings and one library of the University. The fixing to the wall is done with anchor pins, equivalent to natural stone fixing as it is described in DIN 18516, BS 8298 or NF P65-202. An alternative fixing would be undercut anchors from Keil or Fischer on a rail system. The casting and mounting of the Ultra-High Performance cladding façade was perfomed from the German prefab plant Droessler.

Bank Office in Krefeld, Germany

This large sized façade elements, are made with self compacting Nanodur white. The UHPC elements have no fibers, are unreinforced and span over 3.40m with a thickness of 40mm. Since Nanodur white has a slight grayish shade due to the slag it contains, the elements were finished with a white and water-repellent glaze. A particular challenge was the evenness of the elements, which are arranged flush with the aluminum window profiles. The strips in the window area, which are only a few cm wide, are also made of non-combustible mineral Ultra High Performance Concrete -UHPC. The casting and mounting of the Ultra-High Performance cladding façade was perfomed from the German prefab plant Droessler.

Shot-Resistant, Break-In-Resistant, Explosion-Resistant Façades

Shot-resistant UHPFRC-façades and claddings can be achieved using the recipe durcrete ‘shot’. With a slenderness of 7 cm, no piercing or spalling will happen under impact of solid-core ammunition calibre 7.62 x 51 mm (class 7 acc. EN 1063 oder EN 1522/1523). Tests show a resistance class RC6 to manual burglary attempts acc. EN 1630. The resistance to explosion waves is determined by the flexural strength of the material. Here, in addition to a high fiber content, the use of reinforcement bars and prestressing tendons are recommended. UHPFRC Panels for military usage can be delivered from Germany or produced in a local prefab plant.

Facing Boards

The parapet elements of 8mm thickness for this multifamily dwelling were installed in the summer of 2008 in exchange for old bursted safety glass panels. The Ultra High Performance Concrete elements on the left part were reinforced with steel fibers (UHPFRC), the right elements are free from fibers (UHPC). No cracking due to temperature, frost, impact etc. had occured within the last 14 years.
